True Crime: Streets of LA is a video game developed by Luxoflux and published by Activision for the Xbox, PlayStation 2 and GameCube in 2003. The PC version was released in 2004.

The game is set in Los Angeles, California and 200 square miles of the city are represented. As Nick Kang, you play as an officer from the fictional "Elite Operations Division", or E.O.D.

Technical Limitations

There are sevral issues with TC:SLA, as it's abbreviated. The U.S. Bank Tower is incorrectly represented in the game. Also, there are certin errors concerning Street names. In the game, there is a street indicator that tells you which street you are on within the Western Area of Los Angeles County. Fairfax Avenue, is named Fairfax Boulevard, as per the game's representation.

Another technical limitation of the game is that some of the streets have "invisible holes". If one were to drive into one of these, they would flip and fall for a while, and eventually, the gamw will freeze. Some are found as follows:

  • Figueora Street and 18th Street
  • Washington Boulevard and Fairfax Boulevard

Gameplay

True Crime is one of several games inspired by the Grand Theft Auto series, in which the player is allowed roam freely on foot as well as in vehicles and is able to interact with the surroundings, i.e. jack a car or start a fight. It was billed as a game containing three genres; driving, fighting and shooting. Many upgrades were available along with new moves to unlock.

The game has been referenced to as "True Grime: Street Cleaners" on many billboards in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas in response to parodying GTA's creators Rockstar, with ads resembling the Rockstar logo, but syaing "Jockstrap".

There are plans to make a sequel to the game, but details have yet to be released as to which city it takes place in.

Here is a list of songs from TC:SoLA:

A sequel called True Crime 2 is supposed to hit stores in Fall 2005
